CENTER FOR COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

COMMUNITY SERVICE PROGRAM

OUR PURPOSE

Facilitate high school students' exploration of community issues in order to deepen their understanding of local challenges. By fostering awareness and connecting students with community issues, we hope to encourage a sense of responsibility and inspire them to go beyond by taking active roles in addressing challenges that resonate with their values.

GUIDING PRinciples

In our community service program, we believe that community service goes beyond mere participation.

It is a transformative experience designed to deepen social awareness, develop essential soft skills, and empower our volunteers to evidence the impact of their actions.

These success criteria serve as the cornerstone of our program, ensuring that the 100 service hours our students dedicate result in a significant personal and communal journey.

  • By immersing themselves in the local community, volunteers will be exposed to its diverse needs, thereby broadening their perspectives and fostering empathy.

  • Through engaging in real-world experiences, volunteers will develop essential interpersonal skills, including communication, teamwork, leadership, problem-solving, and adaptability, preparing them for success beyond high school.

  • Through witnessing the tangible effects of their actions, volunteers cultivate a deeper sense of connection and fulfillment, empowering them to define their roles within the community.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

All high school students must fulfill 100 service hours (CSL hrs) by the end of their senior year to graduate.

It is recommended that by the end of each school year:

9th graders complete at least 10 CSL hrs

10th graders complete at least 40 CSL hrs

11th graders complete at least 70 CSL hrs

12th graders complete 100 CSL hrs (required)

VOLUNTEER SELECTION PROCESS

In cases where language is not a barrier, priority is given to international students, ensuring fair consideration for their participation.

To support all students in meeting the graduation requirement of 100 service hours, our volunteer selection process is designed to be inclusive. For programs or events with unlimited positions, all applicants are admitted.

Those with limited positions follow an application process to facilitate graduation requirement fulfillment. The selection process is as follows:

1. Seniors (12th grade) with pending CSL hrs.

2. Juniors (11th grade) with pending 31 or more CSL hrs.

3. Sophomores (10th grade) with pending 61 or more CSL hrs.

4. Freshmen (9th grade) with pending 91 or more CSL hrs.

5.  Freshmen to Juniors with pending CSL hrs below the recommended threshold.

6. High school students with completed CSL hrs.
